OA67925: SOME EXTENDED FORMAT FILES INCORRECTLY FAIL WITH MSG GZD0403E ZDMF/K 25/05/16 PTF PECHANGE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When encrypting extended-format non-VSAM datasets, some fail
  with message GZD0403E (too-short block detected), but this is
  incorrect.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When encrypting extended format files,  *
  *                      in some cases message GZD0403E may be   *
  *                      issued incorrectly when OA67427 is      *
  *                      applied, due to an error in detecting   *
  *                      short blocks.                           *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF when available.                *
  ****************************************************************
  The fix for APAR OA67427 did not consider the extra 32 bytes
  added to true Extended Format datasets in its calculations of
  block length.
  

Problem conclusion

• OA67427 checked the blocksize after the file being encrypted was
  extended, and incorrectly processed the block size of Extended
  Format datasets.  OA67925 checks the blocksize before it
  is modified for encryption.
