Error description

  • JES2 main task loop for COMM-PCE
    *$HASP9203 LONG PCE DISPATCH 583
    DURATION-000:01:46.35 PCE-COMM EXIT-NONE JOB ID-NONE
    COMMAND-$TOJQ,/Q=T,/C<>,D=NEWDEST

    ANALYSIS:
The NULL value for a limiting keyword such as FCB<> and FCB=
    is incorrectly processed.

    KNOWN IMPACT:
On z/OS 3.1, a loop of the command processor in HASCSCAN may
occur. For releases prior to z/OS 3.1, you get incorrect output
    as result of the command.

    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    1 - A JES2 command to set output characteristics ($TO) for one
or more job output elements using limiting keywords with NULL
    values was issued.
2 - In z/OS 3.1 and above loop of COMM-PCE as indicated by
$HASP9203 LONG PCE DISPATCH which never ends.

Local fix

  • use the long form FCB<>****, instead of the short form FCB<>,

Issuing $T commands with selection limiting keywords that have
NULL values (e.g., /FCB=, /UCS<>) may cause an infinite loop.

Problem conclusion

  • TYPE/RESTART (WARM) IPL/REQUIRED (YES) CLPA (YES)

CLPA is needed only if HASCxxxx modules currently reside in
the pageable link pack area (PLPA).

The NULL value for a selection limiting keyword such as FCB<>,
is incorrectly processed. This may result in a loop of the
command processor or incorrect command output.
