New function to enhance processing of TSO logon procedures.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • When logging on to TSO, if processing of the logon procedure
fails due to data set contention, then new message MSGIEF864I
will be issued to the TSO user's terminal to identify the data
set(s) that are already in use:
IEF864I DATA SET dsname ALREADY IN USE
This new message will accompany the existing MSGIKJ56457I
message that indicates a failure during logon processing.

      +-----------------------------------------------------------+
The following is a new message:

IEF864I DATA SET dsname ALREADY IN USE

Explanation: During processing of a TSO LOGON procedure, a
data set was not allocated because another job
or user has requested control of the data set.
In most cases, the other job or user has
allocated the data set with DISP=OLD or DISP=MOD.
If the system detects that more than one data
set could not be allocated, this message will be
                   issued for each data set.
This message is only issued to the terminal of
the TSO user attempting to logon.
                   In the message text:
dsname - The name of the data set that was not
available. This data set name can be
                            an alias (alternate name).

System Action: LOGON processing ends. The system also issues
one or more of the following messages:
                   - IKJ56457I
                   - IEF211I
                   - IEF861I
                   - IEF863I

User response: Wait for the data set to become available and
retry the logon process. If the error
continues, contact the operator or system
                   programmer.

Operator response: Determine which address space, job, or
started task is using the data set by issuing
                   the following command:
                     D GRS,RES=(SYSDSN,dsname)
If applicable, wait for the data set to become
available, or contact the System Programmer.

System programmer response: See Operator response.
Considering the output provided by the D GRS
command, take one of the following actions:
                   - Wait for the data set to be released.
                   - Contact the owner of the address space, job,
or started task that is holding the data set
to have the data set released.
                   - Cancel the address space, job, or started task
that is using the data set.
