Error description
When using Logical Copy to migrate a GDG, all generations are copied under one task. When are large number of generations and volumes are being processed, message IKJ56220I MAXIMUM NUMBER OF DATA SET ALLOCATIONS ALLOWED BY YOUR SESSION HAS BEEN REACHED can occur.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Migrating multiple large GDG files * * simultaneously using zDMF Logical Copy * * can cause the IKJ56220I error and a failed * * migration. * * * * SET_EATTR_OPT_ALL is not currently honored * * using zDMF Logical Copy. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. Failed zDMF Logical Copy migration * * and message IKJ56220I indicating * * that the number of allocations has * * exceeded the limit for the job. * * 2. zDMF option SET_EATTR_OPT_ALL has * * no effect on dataset allocation on * * EAV volumes using zDMF Logical Copy. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF when available. * **************************************************************** 1. There is a limit to the number of datasets that can be allocated at one time, and a GDG can contain up to 255 datasets. If multiple GDGs are being processed simultaneously, the allocation limit can be exceeded, causing a failed migration and the IKJ56220I error message. 2. In order to use the maximum space on an EAV volume, the zDMF option SET_EATTR_OPT_ALL option can be added to a zDMF group definition, but zDMF Logical Copy does not currently support this option.
Problem conclusion
1. Instead of holding the allocation of each GDG dataset until the end of the job, zDMF Logical Copy now deallocates each after the copy of the dataset completes. 2. Support for the zDMF option SET_EATTR_OPT_ALL has been added to zDMF Logical Copy.
