Error description

  • This apar addresses the following WLM Execution Delay
    Monitoring Buffer Pool Management problems:

    1. Unable to associate a BPMGMTONLY performance block (PB) with
       an address space.
    2. PBs are only sampled when their owning address space is
       swapped in.
    3. Delay states SESS_NETWORK and SESS_SYSPLEX are switched in
the WLM sampling code, i.e., the SESS_NETWORK delays are
reported as SESS_SYSPLEX, and vice versa. This applies to
fields RCAEWSS and RCAEWSN in the IWMWRCAA answer area of
the IWMRCOLL service, and accordingly to fields R723RWSN and
R723RWSS in SMF record type 72. This causes incorrect SYSP
and REMT numbers in the STATE SAMPLES BREAKDOWN (%) WAITING
FOR block of the subsystem data section in the RMF WLMGL
       Service Class Period report.

    ****************************************************************
The problems are caused by the following:

    1. The monitoring environment initialization service IWM4MINI
does not allow a BPMGMTONLY monitoring environment to be
       associated with an address space.
    2. Module IRASASRV samples monitoring environments only when
their owning address space is swapped in.
    3. Module IRASASRV reports SESS_NETWORK delays as SESS_SYSPLEX,
       and vice versa.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR solves above problems as follows:

    1. The monitoring environment initialization service IWM4MINI
is extended to allow associating BPMGMTONLY monitoring
       environments with address spaces.
    2. The WLM connect service IWM4CON is extended with a new
parameter SAMPLE_OUTQ which indicates whether monitoring
environments of the connecting address space will also be
sampled when the address space is swapped out. The default
value is NO. If set to YES, module IRASASRV is changed to
always sample the monitoring environments of the address
space, even when it is swapped out. This applies only to
delay monitoring environments allocated in common storage.
    3. Reporting of SESS_NETWORK and SESS_SYSPLEX delays is fixed
       in module IRASASRV.

In addition, this APAR introduces a new MODE=SET_FREE for the
monitoring environment initialization service IWM4MINI which
indicates that all previous attributes of the work request
should be discarded, and the work request disassociated from
the monitoring environment. This is required to allow re-using
the same monitoring environment with enclaves, address spaces,
and parent monitoring environments in arbitrary order.

Furthermore, this APAR fixes some minor problems in the
    IWM4MRLT and IWM4MXFR macros.
