Error description

  • AUTHWXXX tasks encounter High CPU in INGCHW00 after CPC MCL
    maintenance is applied.
    The High CPU can occur if Suspend/Resume is used or not.

Local fix

  • Stop the AUTHWxxx taskcausing the loop (using NCCF-command 'STOP
    TASK=autotask’). The task should automatically restart.
    If this does not resolve the high CPU, recycle the SA Agent.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM Z System Automation V4R3 *
    *                 or V4R2 using Processor Operations and/or    *
    * the SA BCPii INTERNAL interface. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: High CPU usage of NetView after MCL *
    * upgrade due to looping AUTHWxxx *
    *                      autotasks                               *
    ****************************************************************
    After applying MCL upgrades with a subsequent restart of the
    SE AUTHWxxx autotasks started looping in INGHWCOM, sometimes
    accompa-nied with the autotask being throttled by NetView
    because the inter-nal MAXCPU limit was hit (indicated by
    msg BNH161I).
    This led to situations that NetView was consuming up to 40%
    of the overall system CPU leaving not much room for other
    applications to be dispatched in an orderly manner.
    The autotask or NetView had to be recycled to overcome
    the situation.

Problem conclusion

  • The event handler routine of the hardware interface module has
    been corrected; an unnecessary loop while waiting for events
    sent from the HW has been eliminated.
    Furthermore, handling of unknown events has been improved, so
    raw event data are being dumped to NetLog in case such unknown
    event da-ta are received.
    To reduce the looping potential in case of a massive number of
    unknown events being sent a 1 second wait has been introduced.
