Error description

  • A SYSDSN ENQ is held whenever a browse session is started.
The ENQ protects data from going away while the browse
session (IXGBRWSE) is active. It also prevents a particular
log stream data set from being deleted if the browse cursor is
currently positioned on that particular data set. For long
running browse sessions that simply read data from oldest to
youngest, it may cause the SYSDSN ENQ to be held even
though the browse cursor is nowhere near the data set with the
    ENQ.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When a browse session is started and its read cursor falls on
data that resides in a log stream data set, a SYSDSN ENQ is
held to ensure the data set does not get deleted. For long
running browse sessions that simply read data from oldest to
youngest, this may result in the SYSDSN ENQ being held even
when the read cursor no longer points to the associated data
set. This happens when the read cursor points beyond the
log stream data set and points to data that is in interim
    storage.

Problem conclusion

  • System Logger is changed to release the SYSDSN ENQ when
the read cursor transitions from data on DASD to data in
    interim storage.
