OA63931: MESSAGE GZD0801E ISSUED INCORRECTLY FOR LINEAR DATA SETS ZDMF/K

Error description

• When zDMF is converting a Linear Data Set with 8K CISZ, it
  often produces message GZD0801E Data set XXX.YYY.LDS.DATA
      in group GSB00124 contains an imbedded short block at
      CCHHRkll=0048000101001000. on source VOLSER=XXX005
  
  There are three related issues:
  1. This message should never be issued for VSAM components, as
     they cannot have short blocks.
  2. The problem causing the error isn't short blocks.
  3. There is no actual problem, so no message should be issued.

  *                      issued by zDMF, but rather indicative   *
  *                      of a storage overlay where 1028 is a    *
  *                      hex value of an extended format         *
  *                      physical block size plus 8 bytes.       *
  *                                                              *
  *                      Other possible symptoms include         *
  *                      conversion of track allocated physical  *
  *                      sequential data sets which do not get   *
  *                      encrypted but incur an I/O error when   *
  *                      browsed.                                *

  All of the VSAM data set errors arise from attempting to process
  unformatted control areas where the physical blocks encountered
  on a given track are unpredictable in nature since the track has
  not been formatted yet for this VSAM data set.
  
  The errors associated with physical sequential files arise from
  incorrectly associating an empty track with the first block of
  the data set and determining the data set to be empty.
  

Problem conclusion

• GZDCTLM is modified to better detect VSAM end of file by:
  1. Identifying when a track is contained within a preformatted
     control AREA and validates the expected blocks accordingly.
  2. Identifying when a track is at a control area boundary and
     validates the track accordingly.
  3. Identifying when a track is contained in an unformatted
     control area.
  GZDCTLM now correctly detects empty first block of a physical
  sequential file.
