Error description

  • Following the successful completion of an IEBCOPY COPYGRP or
    COPYGROUP with the GENS=ALL parameter the PDSE Generation Data
    Index records in the target PDSE will have uninitialized member
    length data.

    Subsequent STOW RECOVERG or STOW RG (ReplaceGeneration)
    processing against the target PDSE is likely to fail with an
    S0C1 ABEND out of the PDSE module IGWDDCR2+70AE at the z/OS 2.5
    base level.

    The inability to recover or replace PDSE member generations in
    the target PDSE of an IEBCOPY COPYGRP or COPYGROUP with the
    GENS=ALL parameter.

Local fix

  • BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
    Avoid IEBCOPY generation copy processing. This entitles IEBCOPY
    COPYGRP or COPYGROUP with the GEN=ALL parameter

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Copying PDSE member generations using IEBCOPY with the *
    * GENS=ALL option produces generations which can result in an *
    * intentional 0C1 error when the generation is recovered due *
    * to an incorrect length being written in the generation *
    * metadata.                                                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • Corrected the code so new copies will have the correct internal
    length in the metadata. In addition, any generation created by
    the previous errant behavior will be tolerated and able to be
    recovered correctly.
