Error description
Writting multi DB2 image copies into multivolume tape might lead to overwrite data on tape managed by RMM . DB2 Image Copy tool opening with INOUT a standard labeled tape data set to read it forward but the volume that open has positioned the data set to is not the actual first volume of the data set may receive following messages: IEC501A M dev,tapevol2,SL,,jobname,stepname,dsname - RACK=tepavol2 IEC712I dev,tapvol2,jobname,stepname,ddname-nu READ - NOT FIRST VOLUME OF DATA SET IEC716I nu:TAPE MULTIVOLUME LIST CORRECTED IEC502E R dev,tapevol2,SL,jobanme *IEC501A M dev,taoevol1,SL,,jobanme,stepname,dsname In that case, RMM does not reject the mount request permitting the dataset to be overwritten from first and seconde volume

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All DFSMSrmm users having option MASTEROVERWRITE(ADD) * * specified in their EDGRMMxx parmlb member and using * * applications writing to tapes with the OPEN mode INOUT, for * * example, DB2 Image Copy tool. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * In the case when an application program opens a tape data * * set with INOUT, but the volume that the open processing has * * positioned the data set to, is not the first volume of the * * data set, then after mounting the requested volume in * * response to IEC501A: * * * * *IEC501A M 0590,A10511,SL,,JOB1,STEPN, * * DSN1 - RACK=A10511 * * * * the following messages get issued unexpectedly: * * * * IEC712I 0590,A10511,JOB1,STEPN,TAPE * * READ - NOT FIRST VOLUME OF DATA SET * * IEC716I TAPE :TAPE MULTIVOLUME * * LIST CORRECTED * * IEC502E R 0590,A10511,SL,JOB1,STEPN * * - RACK=A10511 * * * * This is followed then by the subsequent mount requests for * * the volumes from the multivolume list: * * * * *IEC501A M 0590,A10510,SL,NOCOMP,JOB1, * * STEPN,DSN1 - RACK=A10510 * * IEC502E K 0590,A10510,SL,JOB1,STEPN, * * DSN1 - RACK=A10510 * * *IEC501A M 0590,A10511,SL,NOCOMP,JOB1, * * STEPN,DSN1 - RACK=A10511 * * * * Provided that the application program actually performs * * writing, this results in the dataset being overwritten on * * the volumes mounted. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply the applicable PTF(s). * **************************************************************** The program does not provide the correct processing for the case described. The volume should have been rejected with the message EDG4051I VOLUME volser REJECTED. INSTALLATION OPTION PREVENTS OVERWRITE OF FILES ON MASTER VOLUMES right after mounting it in response to the very first mount request.
