APAR status

Error description

  • ABEND 0C8 PIC8 observed in HASCPHAM. No other messages are
    present. ABEND may be observed only in SYSTRACE.
    
    ANALYSIS:
    ABEND 0C8 PIC8 observed in HASCPHAM. In this case, issue occurrs
    at HASCPHAM+314 as part of HPMOVE PUT SUBROUTINE. Job task is
    producing large amounts of output to a particular SYSPRINT DD.
    JCTXOUT field is used to count number of records. At time of the
    error, JCTXOUT is maxed at x'7FFFFFFF'. Caller of this code has
    set bit PSWPFPO in the PSW which means that fixed point
    overflows are not allowed. Thus, instead of overflowing, ABEND
    0C8 PIC8 occurs.
    
    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    1. ABEND 0C8 in HASCPHAM PUT routine
    2. JCTXOUT field id maxed 7FFFFFFF
    3. PSW indicates PSWPFPO is on, disallowing fixed-point
    overflows

    With PSW (Program Status Word) PSWPFPO (Fixed point overflow
    mask) bit set on by the SSI caller, a job that produces more
    than 2,147,483,647 records may cause an overflow and raise
    ABEND0C8-RC08 when the HASCPHAM module attempts to increment
    the JCTXOUT (Generated Output Records) field.
    

Problem conclusion

  • TYPE/RESTART (WARM) IPL/REQUIRED (YES) CLPA (YES)
    
    CLPA is needed only if HASCxxxx modules currently reside in
    the pageable link pack area (PLPA).
    
    The HASCLINK and HASCPHAM modules were changed to clear the
    PSW program mask before every call to JES2 services and
    restore the mask upon return.
