OA61529: ADR472E 04 RECEIVED WHEN SETTING PATCH 5B FOR A NON-SMS DATA SET AND TRACK-MANAGED SPACE IS FULL ON THE TARGET EAV VOLUME

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• ADR472E 04 message is received when using DSS COPY for a Non-SMS
  managed data set.
  
  The source data set has a dataclas where EATTR=NO and currently
  resides in track-managed space on an EAV volume.
  
  Track-managed space is full on the EAV.
  
  Patch byte 5B=FF is set to override the source data set and
  allocate the target data set in cylinder-managed space on the
  EAV volume but ADR472E 04 is received indicating
  UNABLE TO SELECT A TARGET VOLUME FOR DATA SET xxx IN CATALOG yyy
  
  This particular client was using the same volume for the source
  and target data sets and specifying RENAMEU.
  

Local fix

• BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
  Preallocate target dataset specifying EATTR=OPT (either in the
  JCL or via the Dataclas assigned)

  * override the DS1EATTR of the source.  The track-managed      *
  * region was full. The job failed with ADR472E RC04.           *
