Problem conclusion

  • New Function - DFSMShsm has been enhanced to recognize when a
UNIX file is located in a file system that is mounted Read Only,
and use the latest backup date from the DFSMShsm inventory to
decide if a new backup needs to be taken.

Documentation updates are made to z/OS DFSMShsm Storage
    Administration
    SC23-6871

In Chapter 6. "Availability management of SMS-managed storage",
section, "Command availability management", update the
sub-section, "Backing up all eligible changed UNIX files in a
    directory" as follows:

Add the following sentence to the second paragraph. (This
paragraph describes how the file metadata is examined to
determine if a new backup should be taken.)

If the UNIX file resides in a file system that is mounted in
Read-Only mode, then the Last Reference date is not examined.
Instead, the timestamp of the most recent backup in the DFSMShsm
inventory is used to determine if the file has changed since its
last backup was taken. DFSMShsm will not attempt to update the
reftime field for the UNIX file to set the last backup date.
