Error description

  • Definition of a channel path with at least one logical control
unit and devices on the path was updated in the I/O
configuration in the IODF with a new Entry Switch ID for a
switch with a different switch address (Domain).
The channel path was configured offline before executing dynamic
I/O configuration, and then configured online afterwards.
Output of the D M=DEV system command came up clean, with a new
    entry link address.
Output of the D M=DEV,LINKINFO=REFRESH system command continued
to point to an obsolete entry switch address (domain), thus
contradicting the updated I/O configuration, as well as the D
    M=DEV output.
Both entry link addresses came the same after IPL.

    ANALYSIS:
The syslog confirms transition of the CHPID from ONLINE to
OFFLINE, followed by the ACTIVATE command in HW and SW mode, and
    the CF CHP,ONLINE back

Here is the D M=DEV output with a new entry link address:
      D M=DEV(3001)
      IEE174I 15.39.53 DISPLAY M 518
      DEVICE 03001 STATUS=ONLINE
      CHP 64
ENTRY LINK ADDRESS 0307 <-- New Domain 03, port 07

Here is the D M=DEV,LINKINFO=REFRESH output
      D M=DEV(3001,(64)),LINKINFO=REFRESH
      IEE584I 15.40.33 DISPLAY M 203
      DEVICE 03001 STATUS=ONLINE
      Link Information: Last (Refresh)
      Description Channel Entry Port
      Identifier 01EC(64) 050B <--Obsolete Domain 05, port 0B

    KNOWN IMPACT:
No impact to the system, only a distraction

    VERIFICATION STEPS:
Follow verification steps below if two types of the D M=DEV
system command report on different entry link addresses:
    1. Check that the difference was reported after dynamic I/O
configuration in HW and SW mode that changed an entry switch
data in the definition of a channel path in question.
    2. Make sure that the channel path in question was configured
OFFLINE prior to the ACTIVATE command, and then back ONLINE

    ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
    no additional symptoms

Local fix

  • BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
the issue is with reporting only, no impact to the system.
    IPL clears the difference

    RECOVERY ACTION:
Nothing to recover. Proper reporting after IPL
