APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • RSM dynamic stacks are allocated in (E)SQA SP245. If a common
storage shortage occurs, a IAXPQ (entry point IARPQBAL), request
for a dynamic stack can receive an abend080 RCFF0022FF, and if
this occurs, all RSM requests requiring dynamic stacks will no
longer free these stacks on return to caller.

Local fix

  • BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
    Apply PTF when available.

    RECOVERY ACTION:
If common storage is exhausted, an IPL will be needed.

    ****************************************************************
RSM dynamic stacks are allocated in (E)SQA SP245. If a common
storage shortage occurs, a request from IAXPQ (entry point
IARPQBAL) for a dynamic stack can receive an abend080
RCFF0022FF, once this occurs, all RSM requests requiring dynamic
stacks will no longer free these stacks on return to caller.

Problem conclusion

  • The RSM code issues an ABEND080 when attempting to get a save
area and the common storage was consumed. This code is changed
to decrement the work save area queue control counter before
issuing the ABEND080. This should help RSM to free the work save
areas on return to the caller. This APAR fixes the occurrence of
this problem in other parts of the code in addition to the IAXPQ
    code.
