Error description

  • NVINFO CANZLOG PRINT fails with message: DSI203I DATE OR TIME
VALUE IS OMITTED OR NOT VALID

Local fix

  • Specify a PRINT starting from date/time that is contained within
    the CANZLOG archives.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS *
    *                 V6R1 and above.                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When Canzlog archives are being used *
    * (ARCHIVE.HLQ is set to something other *
    *                      than *NONE*), and a FROM date/time is   *
    * specified for a PIPE CZR (which is used *
    * by the PRINT function which is invoked *
    * by NVINFO) that is earlier than the *
    *                      earliest date/time available in the     *
    * archives, the PIPE fails and msgDSI203I *
    * is issued. Users should not have to *
    * know the date/time of the earliest *
    * record in Canzlog archives. *
    ****************************************************************
When archives are used and a date/time earlier than the earliest
available date/time in the archives is requested of module
DSI4LAPM, it just gives a "not found" return code back to the
caller. In the case of PIPE CZR, module DSIPICZR calls module
DSI4LAPN, which calls DSI4LAPM. Module DSI4LAPN considers this
"not found" condition as an error, which it gives back to
DSIPICZR. As a result, module DSIPICZR issues message DSI203I
    and fails the pipe.
Also, there are four numbered bullets at the end of the Usage
Notes in the English online help for PIPE CZR that do not
    belong.

Problem conclusion

  • Module DSI4LAPM is being changed to set reason codes even for
its "not found" error code, one of which being for a "too small"
condition (meaning the "from" date/time value is too early).
When it sets that reason code, it will also return the date/time
of the earliest time stamp in the master index to the caller.
Module DSI4LAPN is being changed such that when the "too small"
reason code is returned, it will just call DSI4LAPM again, since
the "from" date/time value will now be correct. As a result,
searching will begin at the earliest record.
Also, the following documentation changes should be made:
The description of the CZR stage in the IBM Tivoli NetView for
z/OS V6R2M1 Programming: Pipes manual (SC27-2859-06) should be
     changed as follows:
     - The last sentence (the one starting with "Be careful not to
specify a time") in the description of the TIME parameter
       should be removed.
     - The last sentence in the third bullet under Usage Notes which
begins with "However, if the time is earlier" should be
       changed to read as follows:
When the time in the TIME argument is earlier than any
record in the Canzlog log and the search is downward (+),
then the CZR stage starts with the earliest available
         record.
The description of the PRINT (NCCF) command in the IBM Tivoli
     NetView for z/OS V6R2M1 Command Reference Volume 2 (O-Z)
(SC27-2848-06) should be changed as follows:
     - The last bullet under Usage Notes (which has a heading
"Archiving and start time specifications") should be entirely
       removed.
The description of message DSI203I in the IBM Tivoli NetView
     for z/OS V6R2M1 Messages and Codes Volume 1 (AAU-DSI)
(GC27-2856-07) should be changed as follows:
     - The Note (which starts "If the message is issued from the
PRINT command") should be entirely removed.
The online help for the following is being changed to reflect
    the above:
    - PIPE CZR
    - NCCF PRINT (English only)
    - DSI203I (English only)
Also, the English version of the online help for PIPE CZR is
being changed to no longer have the extraneous four numbered
    bullets after the Usage Notes.
