    should be able to capture dump data faster than current dump
    times.
    

Problem conclusion

  • SDUMP processing has been updated to reduce the time needed to
    collect dump data when ample system resources are available.
    Sdump processing was also changed to collect current system
    trace data for a SLIP dump request.

     Where s-option represents:
                  ...
    | SDUMP,OPTIMIZE=YES or NO
    |      The OPTIMIZE=YES option is intended to be used on
    |      systems that are configured with abundant resources.
    |      When ample CPUs and free real memory are available when
    |      an SVC dump is requested, this parameter allows SDUMP to
    |      attempt to capture data using additional parallelism and
    |      advanced in-memory capture processing.  Below certain
    |      levels of resource availability, or if OPTIMIZE=NO is
    |      specified, SDUMP will capture the dump without using
    |      this additional parallelism.
    |
    |      When OPTIMIZE=YES is in effect, SVC dump processing will
    |      attempt to determine the number of address spaces that
    |      will be included in the dump and will also determine a
    |      rough sizing of the dump based on the resources in use
    |      by the system and by the address spaces being captured.
    |      This information is then compared against available
    |      resources on the system to determine if it is possible
    |      to try to capture the dump using additional parallelism.
    |      If OPTIMIZE=YES is in effect, the technique chosen for
    |      dump capture is identified in message IEA794I.
    |
    |      The default is NO.  Note that this option is not reset
    |      when CD RESET,SDUMP is issued.  If a change is required,
    |      it must be explicitly set using
    |      CD SET,SDUMP,OPTIMIZE=YES|NO.

    |           Optimize-status
      Explanation
             The system has captured the data for the SVC dump. In
             the message text:
      dumpid
             A 3-character dump identifier.
      dump-title
             The title of the dump, provided by the caller or by
             the operator. The title can be up to 100 characters
             long and may span two lines of the multi-line message.
    | Optimize-status
    |        option OPTIMIZE=YES is in effect, and:
    |      DUMP CAPTURED USING OPTIMIZE=YES
    |         Dump capture processing was able to use available
    |         system resources to significantly reduce data capture
    |         time.
    |      INSUFFICIENT RESOURCES FOR OPTIMIZE=YES PROCESSING
    |         Either there was insufficient real storage or not
    |         enough processors available to take advantage of the
    |         capability. SDUMP was unable to capture the dump
    |         using additional parallelism to complete the dump.
    |      OPTIMIZE=YES PROCESSING ABORTED
    |         During the data capture, insufficient system
    |         resources were available, or an environmental error
    |         was encountered.SDUMP was unable to capture the dump
    |         using additional parallelism to complete the dump.
      System action
    |    If the dumpid contains the characters 'DCB', the dump
         capture is successful for a SDUMP(X) request to a DCB.
