• ABEND0C4 KLV$GMEM in CLASSIC with PTF(s) UA98401 and/or UA98402
  applied.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After UA97074, high CPU may be observed *
  *                      accompanied by contention for           *
  *                      KLVEMRQN/KLVEMRRN.                      *
  *                                                              *
  *                      After UA98465, S0C4 abends may occur in *
  *                      Engine VTAM or XCF exits, for example,  *
  *                      when logging on to the CUA.             *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF.                               *
  ****************************************************************
  Non-threadsafe updates to memory control blocks may lead to
  unpredictable behaviour including abends, high CPU, and
  resource contention on KLVEMRQN/KLVEMRRN.
  
  Code intended to provide more diagnostic information to aid
  debugging can try to access fetch-protected memory causing
  S0C4 abends.
  

Problem conclusion

• ITMS/Engine was changed to:
  - make threadsafe updates to memory control blocks.
  - not access fetch-protected memory.
