Error description
Customers receive IEC331I 050-018 on any zFS located on R/O DASD, IOEZ00336I READ.DASD could not be marked as a zFS aggregate in the catalog, rc=50 rsn=18 The error does not stop mount processing. The file system is mounted and accessible to users. This failure is reported after installing PUT1708. No failure is reported prior to that maintenance level. The rc=50 rsn=18 indicates: RETURN CODE 50 Explanation: An error has been detected in VVDS manager. There may be sfi information for this message. Message IEC331I might be produced for the error and can contain additional information (SFI) for diagnostic use. 18 Explanation: An I/O error has been detected while accessing a VVDS record. This reason code results in message IEC161I being issued, which provides more information about the error. An SVC dump may also have been created, depending on the type of error that occurred.
Local fix
None. The file system is mounted and accessible to users.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All users of the z/OS Version 2 Release 3 * * FMID(HZFS430) ZFS filesystem. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * IOS000I, IEC331I, and IOEZ00336I * * messages are generated when zFS * * attempted to set a new "zfs" bit * * in the catalog. This bit was * * introduced for z/OS V2R3. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** zFS attempted to set a new "zfs" bit in the catalog when mounting an aggregate and the DASD on which the VVDS resided was read-only, resulting in the IOS000I, IEC331I, and IOEZ00336I messages.
Problem conclusion
If a mount (or takeover) is made with the read-only option, zFS will longer attempt to set the old or the new zFS bits in the catalog, thus avoiding the IOS000I, IEC331I, and IOEZ00336I messages. If the mount/takeover is read-write, and the DASD is read-only, these messages can still occur.
