Error description

  • Total Space Alert Threshold % interval resets after falling
below the Space Alert Threshold % Storage group setting.

After receiving IGD400I, as the result of reaching the Space
Alert Threshold % setting in the Storage group, if the space
allocated decreases below that setting, a new IGD400I should not
be issued until the space either:
       - increases past the 10% interval amount (and at 5% intervals
when the interval is greater than or equal to 85%)

                    ** or **

       - decreases below the interval-and-a-half amount

    For example,
if Space Alert Threshold % storage group setting = 60%
and space allocated goes hits 76%, an IGD400I is issued.
The interval-and-a-half amount is 65%. So another IGD400I
should not be issued until the space allocated goes below 65%
     or above 80%.

    SUMMARY:
Storage group alert messages IGD400I and IGD401I were issued
multiple times, experiencing a 'ping pong affect' in which the
storage group space usage % bounced around a threshold value.
Repeated messages with the same storage usage % caused
    confusion for the customer.

Problem conclusion

  • A buffer between the intervals that determine the reissuance of
IGD400I and IGD401I is added to avoid a ping pong affect that
leads to over issuance of the alert messages. The buffer size
    is half the interval size.
