Error description

  • A device is defined with two CHPIDs - FA and FF, both paths are
operational and actively used, as confirmed by the D M=DEV
system command. However, the D M=CONFIG(xx) command flags one of
the channel paths as NOT GENERATED, as it follows from
    MSGIEE097I below:
    .
      IEE097I 13.46.16 DEVIATION STATUS
                     FROM MEMBER CONFIGxx
      DEVICE DESIRED ACTUAL
      7900,FF ONLINE NOT GEND
    .
The message is incorrect and should not be issued by the D
    M=CONFIG(xx) command processor

    ANALYSIS:
A dump confirms that the flagged path is installed and used; the
LISTU 7900 subcommand in IPCS returns:
      LPM...... 30 PIM...... 30
      CHPID.... FFFFFAFF 00000000
                    --==
Yet the IEEMPDV1 module displays CHP FF as NOT GEND, because
subroutine CHECPATH attempts to locate the CHP in the SCHCHPID
string, immediately finds it at offset +0 (mask 80), and exits,
    keeping a default of NOTGEN.

    KNOWN IMPACT:
The D M=CONFIG(xx) system command may report on a valid and
installed CHPID as NOT GEND in the IEE097I message

    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    MSGIEE097I returns a DEV,CHP with ACTUAL=NOT GEND. However, the
D M=DEV(dev) system command confirms that the CHP is installed.

    ****************************************************************
D M=CONFIG(xx) command ("display deviations") processing
invokes module IEEMPDV1 to compare the actual system
configuration with the desired configuration specified in the
CONFIG(xx) parmlib member. IEEMPDV1's logic to check device
paths is faulty and may result in message IEE097I showing some
paths as NOT GEND when they actually are installed.

IEE097I hh.mm.ss DEVIATION STATUS FROM MEMBER CONFIGxx
     DEVICE DESIRED ACTUAL
     dddd,pp ONLINE NOT GEND

The D M=DEV(dddd) command will show the correct actual
    state of the device paths.

Other than incorrectly reporting a deviation in the
configuration, there is no impact to the system.
