Error description

  • ABEND DM767 is issued when attempting a dynamic spool delete via
the *MODIFY CONFIG command, after running the DUMP JOB facility.

    ANALYSIS:
When dump job is run in server mode, the dump job output is
assigned to the server job. The log data set is associated with
JOB0, allowing the server job to purge. The spool delete code
identifies that there is spool space associated with the server
job under JOB0, and abends when it determines that the server
    job has been purged.

    KNOWN IMPACT:
DM767 abend(s) occur when attempting dynamic spool delete via
    *MODIFY CONFIG command.

    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    1. Dump Job facility is run.
    2. Dynamic Spool delete via *MODIFY CONFIG command is attempted.
    3. DM767 abend(s) issued.

The projected closing code is PER for HJS7790 and above.

    ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
DM763 can occur after attempting to modify a dataset (of a
dumpjob job log) to a networking destination after the dumpjob
    has completed and purged.

Local fix

  • BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
Cancel/print any datasets associated with dump job before
    issuing the *MODIFY CONFIG.

    ****************************************************************
The Dump Job (DJ) facility was used to dump jobs before
performing a dynamic spool delete. The spool space for the
DJ log file was associated with the DJ job. When the DJ job
ended, the DJ log was spun off and became a SYSOUT data set
belonging to JOB0. The DJ job was then purged.

During the dynamic spool delete, module IATMOSQC found the
DJ log data on a spool volume that was to be deleted. It
attempted to identify the owning job or DSP in order to allow
the operator to cancel it so that the spool delete could
    proceed.

Since the spool space was allocated to a job that no longer
existed, IATMOSQC could not identify a valid owner, and
instead issued ABENDDM767 to indicate a spool delete error.

Problem conclusion

  • Installation On (Global)
                 Order (Any)
    Activation Order (Any)
                 Type/JES3 restart (Hot/Command)
                 Type/IPL (None)
                 CLPA (No)
    (See Apar II07968 for definitions)

Module IATDJOB has been changed to assign the spool space for
the Dump Job (DJ) log to the DJ Dynamic Support Program (DSP)
instead of to the DJ job. This allows module IATMOSQC to
locate output for JOB0 that can be cancelled to delete the
    spool space.

Note that this will not affect DJ jobs that were started
    before this fix is activated.
