OA54621: CHANGING TAPEAUTHRC8 DYNAMICALLY TO FAIL DOES NOT WORK

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• dynamically changing DEVSUP parm TAPEAUTHRC8 to FAIL has no
  effect. Externally it will show that it has changed however it
  remains working as WARN.
  A data set that should receive an IEC150I 913-38 will only get
  ICH408I indicating that WARN is still in effect.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After modifying the DEVSUPxx            *
  *                      parmlib member to contain               *
  *                      TAPEAUTHRC8=WARN and issuing            *
  *                      'T DEVSUPxx' to turn it ON, you can     *
  *                      not mod it to TAPEAUTHRC8=FAIL,         *
  *                      issue the 'T DEVSUPxx' command and      *
  *                      expect the TAPEAUTHRC8 function         *
  *                      to be set to FAIL.                      *

  *                      There is no change in functionality     *
  *                      of the TAPEAUTHRC8= FAIL                *
  *                      TAPEAUTHRC8= FAIL is the default at IPL *
  *                      The fix only provides the ability to    *
  *                      apply TAPEAUTHRC8 = FAIL                *
  *                      using the SET DEVSUP=XX.(dynamically)   *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  When the system administrator adds the keyword parameter
  TAPEAUTHRC8=FAIL to the DEVSUPXX and issues SET DEVSUP=XX,
  the TAPEAUTHRC8=FAIL does not take effect on the system.
  With this PTF, there isn't a change in functionality of
  the TAPEAUTHRC8=FAIL. TAPEAUTHRC8=FAIL is still the default
  at IPL time.
  This fix simply provides the ability to dynamically apply
  TAPEAUTHRC8=FAIL using the SET DEVSUP=XX.
