Error description
Customer received a dump for ABENDEC6 RSN0837048F. A problem was detected using a Kernel Timer Queue Element (KTQE) for a job that issued a SET_TIMER_EVENT (BPX1STE) call. Additional symptom: REASON0836048F RSN0836048F Note that issuing csect is BPXLUKW

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All users of z/OS UNIX System Services for * * HBB7790 HBB77A0 and HBB77B0. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * ABENDEC6 RSN0837048F * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A possible cause for the ABENDEC6 RSN0837048F is that an IRB is issuing a syscall that does a kernwait on top of an RB that is in a timed kernwait. The IRB kernwait's first ECB gets POSTed. When the RB gets POSTed by an event other than the latch ECB, kernwait assumes that because the latch ECB (first ECB POSTed during the IRB wait) is POSTed that a timer cancel is not needed. This leaves the timer event still pending. When this thread issues another timer request it finds that the KTQE is in use and issues the ABENDEC6 RSN0837048F.
Problem conclusion
The solution is to check the PprtKtqe status when leaving kernwait and user kernwait and issuing a timer cancel if the KTQE is on the wait or request queues. This should prevent the symptom (ABENDEC6 RSN0837048F) seen by the user. If this condition is detected, a dump will be taken and the thread will retry and be allowed to continue. Additional RAS data is being added to kernpost, kernwait and user kernwait to help in determining the actual cause.
