Error description

• Various abends are possible when running a multitasking DASD
  scan request using program HSIPINQ. (Each SCANDIR statement
  without the CATALOG keyword will generate a multitasking scan.)
  Multitasking was not used in releases older than V8R1.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SCANDIR requests may encounter various  *
  *                      abends such as S0C4, SC78 and SA03.     *
  *                      Message HSIP057E may appear to report   *
  *                      abend S000-522.                         *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  When the last volume of a scan request has been processed, the
  main task may proceed to either end the job step or start the
  next request (as appropriate) before the subtasks of the
  recently completed request have ascertained that there is no
  more work to do and terminate.
  
  Thus, subtasks may still exist when HSIPINQ attempts to
  terminate (abend SA03) or subtasks may attempt to access data
  structures of the next request (abend S0C4 or SC78-56) and/or
  message HSIP057E reporting an abend code of S000-522 which
  did not really occur - 522 being an internal code occurring
  when a volume cannot be matched to a subtask.
  

Problem conclusion

• The main task will now wait until all of its subtasks have
  terminated before either ending the job step or initiating the
  next request.
  
  The internal response code of 522 - which was to signify that an
  indefinite wait or abend S522 had been avoided - is now replaced
  by x'AB' stored in a location not input to message HSIP057E.
