APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• JES2 can experience IO errors and abends while reading in CHLOG.
  An incorrect calculation of remaining CHLOG records can lead
  the count to go negative and cause errors.
  
    Symptoms reported include :
  > $HASP291 - JES2 CKPTn DATA SET I/O ERROR
  > $HASP078 CKPTONDA SUBTASK FAILED - ABEND S18A RC=00000000
  > $HASP275 MEMBER xxxx-- JES2 CKPTn DATA SET - I/O ERROR
              REASON CODE K10 - MODIFIER - 12
  > $HASP095 JES2 CATASTROPHIC ERROR.  CODE = $GW3
  
    Customer Impact:
   If this happens,JES2 may not be able to WARM start from a V2R2
   member. If there is an IO error on CKPT and the Reconfig
   Dialog begins, you can complete the reconfig and may see
   another abend ($GW3). After that a Hot start may complete.
   If all members are at V2R2, and you respond 'TERM' to the
   Reconfig Dialog, then you will not be able to WARM start
   and a COLD start will be required.
  
    JES2 can be restarted from a V2R1 member of the MAS.
  
  Verification Steps:
  1. JES2 running at z/OS V2R2
  2. CKPT Dataset defined on DASD
  3. CKPTDEF MODE=DUAL

• Set CKPTDEF MODE to DUPLEX
  Command> $T CKPTDEF,MODE=DUPLEX

   - $HASP095 JES2 CATASTROPHIC ERROR.  CODE = $GW3
  

Problem conclusion

• TYPE/RESTART (HOT) IPL/REQUIRED (NO) CLPA (NO).
  
  The DDA_RD2 routine of module HASPCKDA has been changed to
  correctly calculate the number of checkpoint change log
  records remaining to be processed.
