OA51439: $HASP095 JES2 CATASTROPHIC ABEND. CODE= S378 (RC = 00000014)

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• If a JES2 storage shortage exists such that HASCPOOL cell pool
  expand routine (CPEXPAND) fails a conditional storage obtain
  (label CPXBELOW), then JES2 later erroneously attempts to
  unconditionally storage release that same area and fails with
  abend378-14 (near label CPXNOCPE).
  
  KNOWN IMPACT:
  JES2 encounters catastrophic abend S378 and terminates with the
  $HASP098 prompt
  
  VERIFICATION STEPS:
  1) $HASP095 JES2 CATASTROPHIC ABEND. CODE= S378 (RC = 00000014)
  2) Systrace in dump shows failing storage release driven by
     HASCPOOL (near label CPXNOCPE)
  3) Just prior to S378-14, there is a failing storage obtain
     RC=4 driven by HASCPOOL (near label CPXBELOW)

  When JES2 is unable to obtain additional storage due to a JES2
  private storage shortage, the HASCPOOL module may attempt to
  release storage that was NOT previously obtained, causing JES2
  CATASTROPHIC ABEND378-RC14.
  

Problem conclusion

• TYPE/RESTART(WARM) IPL/REQUIRED(YES) CLPA(YES).
  
  CLPA is needed only if HASCxxxx modules currently reside in
  the pageable link pack area (PLPA).
  
  The HASCPOOL module has been changed:  When a JES2 private
  storage shortage prevents JES2 from obtaining additional
  storage, HASCPOOL will appropriately release only storage
  that was previously obtained.
