Error description
Performing a dynamic IODF activate to delete paths from a logical control unit may not correctly update the SSCB path information. This makes it appear as though the old paths still exist, and may prevent new paths to be varied online. KNOWN IMPACT: This may prevent configuration data from being saved for new paths, which prevents them from being varied online for use. This can surface as errors such as Token NED Mismatch if the newly added paths connect to a different LSS, or this can surface as Maximum Number of Paths Exceeded when replacing some paths to an LSS. IEE103I UNIT D900 NOT BROUGHT ONLINE IEE763I NAME= IOSCCMSG CODE= 0000000800000021 IOS291I CONFIGURATION DATA COULD NOT BE READ ON PATH(D900,96) RC=21 TOKEN NED MISMATCH HAS BEEN DETECTED or IOS291I CONFIGURATION DATA COULD NOT BE READ ON PATH(D900,96) RC=26 CONFIGURATION ERROR - MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PATHS EXCEEDED Some additional symptoms: 0C4 in IOSVCUIN after HW dynamic activate to delete paths and delete devices UCB@ still in SSCB after dynamic activate. UCB's that were had paths deleted then hw/sw del are still in the SSCB. Also - NDCB will remain, even though the UCB will be deleted. VERIFICATION STEPS: 1) Verify that the dynamic activate deleted CHPIDs from the devices in question. This can be seen from message IOS502I IOS502I I/O CONFIGURATION CHANGED 268 INVOKER = *MASTER* NEW IODF = HCDSUP.IODFAA EDT REBUILT, NEW EDT ID = 00 CHPID 54 DELETED FROM DEVICE(S) IN CSS 0 7B00-7BFF 7000-70FF 7D00-7DFF BF00-BFFF F700-F72F F770-F7FF 2) Verify that the deleted CHPIDs are not seen in D M=DEV(dddd) 3) Verify that the SSCB still has the deleted CHPIDs in the array at SSCB+x14 PE INFORMATION: USERS AFFECTED: Users with SuperPAV support OA49090 applied, regardless of whether SuperPAV functionality is being exploited. This affects any dynamic activates that include changing or removing paths to existing devices. These PTFs are: UA90997 UA90996 USER IMPACT: APAR OA49090 added a new function for SuperPAV support. Part of the change introduced this new problem affecting dynamic activations. With the PTFs for OA49090 installed, it is possible to receive MSGIOS291I or MSGIOS1291I after a dynamic I/O configuration change when CHPIDs are removed, replaced or added to devices and control units, which may cause the new path(s) to fail to come online. If Dynamic Channel Path Management (DCM) is not used and your installation does not need to make dynamic I/O configuration changes that remove or change CHPID configurations, leaving the PTFs for APAR OA49090 installed should not result in errors. If you need to make path-related dynamic I/O configuration changes, you should consider removing the PTFs for OA49090.
Local fix
BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION: Avoid performing dynamic activates that includes changing or removing paths to LCUs/Devices. RECOVERY ACTION: IPL, or: Perform a dynamic activate to delete all devices that have the problem. Then perform another dynamic activate to re-add the problem devices.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users at HBB7790 and above with PTFs UA90996 * * or UA90997 installed. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: With OA49090 PTFs UA90996 or UA90997 * * installed, it is possible to receive * * MSGIOS291I or MSGIOS1291I after a * * dynamic I/O configuration change when * * CHPIDs are removed, replaced or added * * to devices and control units. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** After dynamic I/O configuration processing, if a CHPID is removed or replaced, processing fails to clean up self description information related to the affected CHPID. This can cause a failure when attempting to read self description information for paths, resulting in MSGIOS291I CONFIGURATION DATA COULD NOT BE READ ON PATH(D900,96) RC=21 with reason text TOKEN NED MISMATCH HAS BEEN DETECTED or MSGIO291I CONFIGURATION DATA COULD NOT BE READ ON PATH(D900,96) RC=26 with reason text CONFIGURATION ERROR - MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PATHS EXCEEDED.
Problem conclusion
Processing is changed to ensure that the self description data related to the affected CHPID is deleted or replaced.
