Single Point of Failure (SPOF) raised on zEC12 or later machines configured with a single I/O Drawer showing reason: "10xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" The "10" bit indicates the I/O Cage is a single point of failure. This check should not apply to a single I/O Drawer. This message effects messages IOSPF108I, IOSPF154I, IOSPF208I, IOSPF254I, IOSPF308I, and IOSPF354I
Local fix
Ignore expected exception when single I/O drawer used
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users at HBB7780 and above using the * * IOS SPOF Health Check function or the * * IOSSPOF macro service. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: IOS Single Point of Failure service * * reports single points of failure * * which can not be corrected. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The SPOF check function starts out with a completely clear slate of possible issues to check but there are potential issues being checked and can be flagged which can not be corrected by the customer. . One example is the I/O drawer in a smaller machine that only supports one drawer.
Problem conclusion
Update the SPOF processing to ONLY check for components that are actionable by the customer and interesting to the processing. . The components that are being reported on are: processor book, fanout card, I/O domain and channel card. . Also, update the SPOF messages that have the component failure flags to include decoding of the bit string that is reported when there is a SPOF issue. . For example message IOSPF254I would be updated as follows: IOSPF254I Volumes vvvvv1 (sddd1) and vvvvv2 (sddd2) have all CHPIDs share a single point of failure, component indicators = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (model dependent). ! Components: <components>
