APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • While running Innovation's FDRPAS product to SWAP a space
efficient DASD volume concurrently with IDCAMS LISTDATA
    EXTENTPOOLCFG/SPACEEFFICIENTVOL commands, IDCAMS receives
RC=12 with no error message other than the following:

IDC3003I FUNCTION TERMINATED. CONDITION CODE IS 12

IDC0002I IDCAMS PROCESSING COMPLETE. MAXIMUM CONDITION CODE WAS
    12

If LISTDATA is run during a configuration change, the job can
potentially end with a condition code 12 without any prior
    messages indicating the error.

Problem conclusion

  • Failing scenario is a result of LISTDATA software detecting an
IO reconfig condition due to device swap. Error occurs in UCB
Locate routine which builds the subsystem workarea ucb list that
matches the caller's request. Client expects its SWAP run to
pass but also expects a more descriptive message as to reason
    run failed.

Retry UCB Locate routine once if it fails. If it fails again,
    report the following message:

    IDC31559I ASYNCHRONOUS OPERATIONS MANAGER RC=08 REASON=052
IDC3003I FUNCTION TERMINATED. CONDITION CODE IS 12

IDC0002I IDCAMS PROCESSING COMPLETE. MAXIMUM CONDITION CODE
    WAS 12

Return Code of 8 indicates operation failed. Reason Code of 52
indicates I/O config token mismatch or in the middle of I/O
reconfig. In addition, there are other reasons for failure
that will be documented for IDC31559I.

    - 48 (NO UCBS FOUND TO MATCH CALLER'S REQUEST)
    - 52 (RECONFIG OR TOKEN MISMATCH)
    - 56 (SPACE EFFICIENT VOLUME REQUEST FOR ONLINE DEVICE THAT
          HAS AN UNINITIALIZED DCE)

If I/O is successful and results are valid, they could be for
an extent pool on a different storage box due to device swap.
If the swap had resulted in an I/O failure, we would have
reported an error. If the swap does not result in an I/O
failure, it is appropriate to identify this case and report an
informational message indicating that the data returned is
from a different storage device (box).

    IDC31559I ASYNCHRONOUS OPERATIONS MANAGER RC=00 REASON=004
    < Data Report >
IDC0001I FUNCTION COMPLETED, HIGHEST CONDITION CODE WAS 0

IDC0002I IDCAMS PROCESSING COMPLETE. MAXIMUM CONDITION CODE
    WAS 0

Return Code of 0 indicates service completed without error.
Reason Code of 4 indicates data provided is for swapped
    device.
