    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The customer has an environment with *
    * firewall that silently drops inactive *
    *                      connections after 30 minutes.           *
    * After connection has been dropped z/OS *
    * NFS Client takes a lot of time (12+ *
    *                      minutes) to re-establish socket         *
    *                      connection.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    After analysis TCPIP L2 recommends to use KEEPALIVE socket
    option. If keepalive is turned on for connections then they
    would have been dropped when there is no response
    to the keepalives.

Problem conclusion

  • GFSC0RPC::sokTcp() has to be enhanced with
    setsockopt(SO_KEEPALIVE).
