OA39804: ABEND S179 MAY OCCUR WHEN zHPF IS TURNED OFF

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• An abend S179 may occur if zHPF is set to OFF via the SETIOS
  command. There is a small timing window where media manager
  will give an error code of X'00241C0C' which in turn will lead
  to the abend S179. Dumps with the following titles may also be
  seen: COMP=VSAM-ABP,COMPID=5695DF106,ISSUER=IDA121F1

  ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:  After installing bundle 76.20.94.0 on the
  DS8700 we encoutered an I/O error when zHPF was set to OFF
  ( SETIOS ZHPF=NO ) -

Problem conclusion

• Media Manager channel program build module is changed to avoid
  testing the UCBFCX flag and will instead interrogate the return
  code from the IOSZHPF macro to determine whether a device
  supports the zHPF protocol.
  also, restore code from OA35995 which appears to have been
  dropped from releases B10 and C10.
