OA38913: KT1 CRASH BECAUSE RACE CONDITION IN CONNECTION

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• TEMS logs show a a race condition between two threads,
  one thread is making use of a connection at the
  same time in which the cleanup thread is destroying it.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SQL REQUESTS TO THE MANAGEMENT          *
  *                      SERVER CAN CAUSE A RACE CONDITION THAT  *
  *                      CAUSES THE MANAGEMENT SERVER TO CRASH.  *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF.                               *
  ****************************************************************
  SQL requests to the management server can result in a
  race condition during the freeing of stale connection
  handles.  Thus, two threads can be using a connnection
  handle that has already been released.
  

Problem conclusion

• The connection handling code was synchronized so that only
  one thread can access a handle at a time.
