Error description

  • Customer is logging onto NetView using NVAS. The recording
sequence that was done in NVAS has the opid followed by blanks.
With NetView V5R3 this didn't cause any problems because NetView
parsed on a blank. But the parsing was changed in V5R4 and
we now modify the SBA and buffer address to be 3E4040 and then
we parse on the 3E. So if there are trailing blanks after the
opid they are not deleted with V5R4.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When logging on to NetView V5R4 using NVAS, the operator ID
field is more than 8 characters long but the extra characters
are blanks. The parsing of the logon buffer is changed in V5R4
to use X'3E' as the delimiter instead of a blank. So the extra
blanks in the operator ID field are now part of the ID. This
makes the operator ID longer than 8 characters.
Before stripping off any trailing blanks, NetView checks the
length of the operator ID. If it is longer than 8 characters,
NetView considers it an error and sends error message DSI021A.

Problem conclusion

  • DSILAM, DSILAN and DISLAR are being changed so any trailing
blanks in the operator ID field are removed and the operator
ID length is adjusted before any validity checking is done.
