Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All Network File System Server NLM users     *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: - NLM blocking request was blocked and  *
    *                        set up a new request to wait for the  *
    *                        lock available when the client closed *
    *                        the socket, the request control block *
    *                        was not freed.                        *
    *                      - During initialization, NLM callback   *
    *                        request did not get response from     *
    *                        the client and caused Network File    *
    *                        System Server hang.                   *
    *                      - For R1.9 and R1.10, Network File      *
    *                        System Server cannot be started       *
    *                        due to the reserved port not          *
    *                        available.                            *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    - When NLM request cannot be sent due to the client closing
      the socket, all the memory allocated to this request should be
      freed.
    - During initialization, NLM callback request sent to the client
      but the client did not send the reply to the server, and the
      server waits forever for the reply.
    - For R1.9 and R1.10, Network File System Server shut down when
      the reserved port was not available.
    

Problem conclusion

  • - When NLM blocking request blocked with a new request
      waiting for the lock available is ready to reply,
      the request control block will be freed if the client
      closes the socket.
    - During initialization, NLM callback request will drop the
      request if there is no response from the client.
    - For R1.9 and R1.10, Network File System Server will retry to
      bind the reserved port if the reserved port is not available.
