Error description
MsgARC6083A issued continuously on regular intervals when DFSMShsm DFHSM ABARS ABACKUP processing is attempting to backup multiple multi-volume multi-file user tape data sets. The msgARC6083A gets issued when the ABACKUP cannot allocate a volume on which the user tape data set resides. In this instance, this is occurring because either a previous ABACKUP command or the currently processing ABACKUP command already has the dataset and volume allocated. While the ABACKUP is processing the multi-volume user tape data sets, it is leaving a trail of data sets enqueued SYSDSN SHR and volumes enqueued on SYSZVOLS EXCLusive. If one of the volumes that already has a SYSZVOLS EXCL enqueue is called for later in the same ABACKUP or in a subsequent ABACKUP that reuses the same address space, the ARC6083A message is issued asking for the volume and asking the end user to respond WAIT or CANCEL. If the response is WAIT, ABARS will wait 15 minutes while retrying the allocation every 15 seconds. This will continue until the address space is cancelled or the user responds CANCEL to the message.
Local fix
There is no local fix for this problem. The client can mitigate the problem by having fewer multi-volume multi-file user tape data sets in their INCLUDE list. Also, they may be able to reduce the probability of this occurring because an ABACKUP is reusing an address space by increasing the number of ABARS address spaces via the SETSYS MAXABARSADDRESSSPACE command
