OA24810: SENSE CODE 08120011 ISSUED BUT DOES NOT DESCRIBE ACTUAL PROBLEM

Error description

• IST663I INIT-SELF FAILED SENSE 08120011 issued, the sense
  indicates a lack of storage. In this case the customer
  had plenty of storage available. The end user also saw:
  MSG08 USSMSG MSG=08 Text= Command failed due to Insufficient
  Storage.

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: All using DLUR/DLUS.                         *

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:   Message IST663I indicated an INIT     *
  *                      SELF from a DLUR LU failed with sense   *
  *                      08120011.  This sense indicates a lack  *
  *                      of storage; but, VTAM had plenty of     *
  *                      storage available.                      *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

    The Problem can be summarized as follows:
  1. A DLUR LU logged on to an APPL on an APPN node that was not
     it's DLUS.
  2. The  DLUS was not on the BIND path, so the DLUS did not know
     the network addresses used for the session.
  3. The DLUR LU logged off, but the session hung in PSESEND -
     pending SESSEND from the SLU.  In this case, it was because
     the SESSEND sent from the DLUR, on behalf of the SLU,
     contained an invalidly formatted CV35.  This caused the
     SESSEND to be rejected with sense 10020000 - RU length error.
     The session could also hang in PSESEND if the SLU did not
     send the SESSEND.
  4. The DLUR LU logged on again and the session failed with
     sense 08120011, insufficient storage, issued by ISTSSCZP
     even though there was plenty of storage available.  This was
     because ISTSSCZP tried to SSUSPEND the second session
     since the first session was pending SESSEND.  The SSUSPEND
     failed because the PLU network address was not known.
  

Problem conclusion

• ISTSSCZP has been changed to not try to suspend a session
  from a DLUR LU if a prior session is PSESEND and the PLU
  network address is not known.  The SLU SESSEND should always
  be received before the next logon is received and VTAM does
  not wait for the PLU SESSEND (or CDSESSEND) in cases where
  the DLUS is not on the BIND path.
    Instead, ISTSSCZP will reject the logon with sense 0805000B,
  session already exists and parallel sessions are not supported.
