  • In z/OS V1R9, OAM introduces 2 new sublevels into the tape
    level of the OAM storage hierarchy. This effectively expands
    OAM's storage hierarchy into 4 levels; disk, optical, tape
    sublevel-1 (TSL1), and tape sublevel-2 (TSL2).
    
    z/OS V1R9 level systems will be able to access both TSL1 and
    TSL2 volumes, however pre-V1R9 level systems cannot access
    TSL2 volumes. Object group volumes in use on pre-V1R9 level
    systems will default to TSL1.
    
    This support adds a new SUBLEVEL column to OAM's TAPEVOL table
    in DB2. It also introduces a new valid value ('U') to the
    ODLOCFL field in the OAM Object Directory table to indicate
    that the primary copy of the object resides on a TSL2
    volume.
    
    Pre-V1R9 level systems residing in an OAMplex need to
    recognize this new SUBLEVEL column and ODLOCFL indicator in
    order to:
    
    -- default group volumes on this system to TSL1, and
    -- fail any attempts to read objects currently residing
       on a TSL2 volume, and
    -- ignore objects residing on TSL2 volumes when processing
       OSMC functions.
    
    This PTF must be installed on any pre-V1R9 level systems
    prior to the introduction of a V1R9 level (or above) system
    into the OAMplex, even if the V1R9 level system is not
    exploiting the Tape Sublevel function.
    
    The CBRSMR19 samplib job is included with this APAR to add a
    new SUBLEVEL column to OAM's TAPEVOL table in DB2.
    The CBRSMR19 samplib job must be run if a SUBLEVEL column does
    not already exist in your installation's TAPEVOL table. If
    a SUBLEVEL column exists in your TAPEVOL table, then it is not
    necessary to run the CBRSMR19 sample job.
    
    The following behavior is expected in an OAMplex where OAM
    members at z/OS V1R9 with Tape Sublevel-2 volumes are
    co-existing with downlevel (pre-V1R9) sytems:
    
    Pre-V1R9 levels will
    -- Have no knowledge of the new OAM Sublevel (OSL) parameter
       in the SMS Storage Class construct.
    -- Always store to TSL1 volumes regardless of OSL parm in
       storage class.
    -- Never write to TSL2 volumes.
    -- Mark volumes SUBLEVEL='1' when scratch volumes assigned
       to object storage group.
    -- Mark volumes SUBLEVEL=blank when recycled to OAMSCRATCH.
    -- Not create TVCBs for TSL2 volumes that may have been created
       on a V1R9 level system, and therefore any attempts to access
       those volumes will be failed.

    -- OSMC storage group processing will ignore objects residing
       on TSL2 volumes (objects w/ ODLOCFL='U').
       -- A CBR9225I message issued for each collection.
       -- Backup, Transition, Object Expiration, Volume Expiration
          will not be performed for these objects.
       -- OSMC Restore of recalled object back to TSL2 tape will
          result in failure.
    
    NOTE:
    As directed in the PTF's ++HOLD data,
    CBRSMR19 must be run if the installation does not have
    a SUBLEVEL column in OAM's TAPEVOL table in DB2.
    Even if you apply this PTF (for example, as part of routine
    maintenance) and you do not have (and are not preparing
    for) DB2 data sharing in an OAMPlex with at least one system at
    z/OS 1.9, OAM expects the new SUBLEVEL column to be in the
    TAPEVOL table.
    
    CBRPBIND must be run after this PTF is installed and CBRPBIND
    will fail with an SQLCODE -206 if SUBLEVEL column does not
    exist in the TAPEVOL table.
    
    The following messages are added with this PTF:
    
    CBR0214I Invalid sublevel value sublevel-value associated with
    tape volume volser.
    
    CBR0215I One or more tape volumes are not available to OAM
    on this system due to unsupported SUBLEVEL attribute. A
    detailed message for each volume is written to hardcopy log.
    
    CBR0216I Unsupported sublevel value 2 associated with tape
    volume volser.
    
    Explanations expanded for the following messages to
    accomodate Tape Sublevels not supported on this release
    of OAM.
