Error description

  • A variety of problems can occur in ISPF browse during a MAX
    SCROLL DOWN, when the data
set is SMS-managed, and DATACLAS specifies VOLUME COUNT > 1.
    One such error is:
    IEC145I 413-1C,IFG0193A
ABEND 0c4 is also possible (ISRBCDO + x'3FA' is one place
    where it has occurred).
The problem occurs when the BLKSIZE is small. In this case
the block size was 1638 (for an lrecl=91 data set), but other
relatively small block sizes will fail.

Local fix

  • Copy the data to a data set with a larger blocksize.

    ****************************************************************
ISPF was returning a volume count to browse larger than the
    number of volumes in use.
The small blocksize caused a BROWSE table to be created with
uninitialized storage. With the large volume count, the
uninitialized storage was referenced which could cause an
allocation for a volume sequence that did not exist resulting in
    the open error.

Problem conclusion

  • ISPF is changed to correctly generate the number of used volumes
when a candidate volume list greater than the number of used
volumes is returned by the catalog.
