    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Enterprise Extender connection *
    * times out when trying to dial *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The problem is summarized as follows:

    1) An Enterprise Extender (EE) connection initiates a dial
request to contact the partner node.
    2) The IP route being used by this EE connection traverses
an OSA adaptor configured in LCS mode.
    3) During EE activation, XID3s are exchanged by each partner.
    4) The EE activation proceeds to a point where the
XID_Done_Req or XID_Done_Rsp is sent to the partner.
    5) EE successfully builds the signal and issues the IUTIL
macro to send it to the TCP stack for routing.
    6) When the TCP stack sends the packet over the OSA
connection, the packet is discarded by ISTTCCXB with
       reason code 5.
    7) The signal is retransmitted SRQRETRY number of times, each
time resulting in the discard by ISTTCCXB.
    8) The EE connection INOPs as a result:

    IST1411I INOP GENERATED FOR LV41000
IST1430I REASON FOR INOP IS XID OR LDLC COMMAND TIMEOUT
    IST314I END
    IST259I INOP RECEIVED FOR CNV0002F CODE = 01
    IST1416I ID = CNV0002F FAILED - RECOVERY IN PROGRESS
    IST1136I VARY INACT CNV0002F SCHEDULED
    IST1196I APPN CONNECTION FOR xxxx.xxxx IS INACTIVE - TGN = 21

Note: A TCP/IP CTRACE revealed an exception entry cut by
EZBIFOUT with reason !Ethernet Padding Error.

Problem conclusion

  • TCP/IP module EZBIFOUT requires at least one XBFLENT be
available when an EE connection utilizes a OSA adaptor
configured in LCS mode. In this problem, an XBFLENT
was not available for the small LDLC signal. The
XBFLENT is used by EZBIFOUT to pad the data to a
specified minimum packet size required by the
adaptor. In this case, the XBFLENT was not available,
leading to the discard in ISTTCCXB.

To resolve this issue the following changes have been
    made:

The GETTIPAC macro has been modified to allow for
four available XBUFLENTs to be used for data payload for
EE connections. This allows for one free XBUFLENT
for TCP/IP for OSA padding should it be required.

The following modules have been recompiled to
pick up the GETTIPAC macro changes:

    ISTAUCCL
    ISTAUCCR
    ISTAUCIL
    ISTAUCIR
    ISTAUCOL
    ISTAUCOR
    ISTAUCUL
    ISTAUCXF

The following modules have been included for maintenance
    purposes:

    ISTALCSX ISTALCSF ISTAUCLA
