Abstract

OSP-DB DATABASE ACCESS PATH BUILD RESOURCE CONSUMPTION TUNING

Error Description

Jobs performing database access path (index, logical file, etc)
builds and rebuilds quickly yield resources to competing jobs  
(normally jobs that are performing insert, update and delete    
operations to the physical file (table) rows/records).   In many
cases, the access path job has low CPU consumption and high    
clock time (its yielding to the other jobs and waiting to stay  
out of the way).                                                

Problem Summary

operations to the physical file (table) rows/records).   In many
cases, the access path job has low CPU consumption and high    
clock time (its yielding to the other jobs and waiting to stay  
out of the way).                                                

Problem Conclusion

This PTF tunes the access path build processing to yield less  
often and reduce its wait/sleep duration during each yield      
iteration.  Thus, the access path job will progress more        
consistently.  This however, does create an environment where  
the formerly yielded to insert/update/delete jobs aren't yielded
to as often, which increases their clock based execution time.
