Error description

  • To work around some Apple issues, we hard code the Inbox to be
collection ID 4. That collection ID is then mapped to a device
record ID. In the Traveler side, a user's folder has a database
ID (LGUID), and then each device has its own device record ID.
To handle the mapping, the device record ID is set to be the
    same as the LGUID.

Prior to the template upgrade, the LGUID (DB ID) and the device
record ID are NOT the same. To avoid overworking the DB, the
device record ID for mapping 4 is cached in the sync anchors.
This is working just fine and the device record ID should never
change. When the template upgrade is done, it is modifying the
Inbox (many template upgrades don't touch the Inbox, so this is
probably related to the customizations in the template that you
have), and that modification is assuming that the device record
ID was the LGUID and is setting the device record ID to the
LGUID. But, that means the device record ID that is cached no
longer matches, finds nothing, and sync will always be empty.

This APAR only applies if you have done both the Standalone to
HA migration AND a template update that modifies the Inbox (not
all template updates do). And, it will only apply to users that
were syncing since before the HA migration - any users
registered after the HA migration or who have been reset since
the HA migration will not hit this issue.

Local fix

  • "tell traveler reset" of the device. That would only be needed
once as you would never do the HA migration again and therefore
wouldn't be able to hit this again.

Problem summary

  • If a customer were to migrate to High Availability (HA) and also
do a mail template upgrade which modifies the Inbox folder, the
users may not be able to sync mail until a tell traveler reset
    is done for the user.

Problem conclusion

  • The Notes Traveler Server was updated to avoid Inbox sync issues
    when performing the above scenario.
