Error description

  • Customer is attempting to perform a custom Notes install using
    a ConfigFile and notes.ini file

    In the configuration file, they specify information for the
    user's mail server:
    Domino.Name=servername/Acme
    Domino.Address=servername.acme.com
    Domino.Port=TCPIP

    When the install is completed the user launches Notes for the
    first time. They are prompted for their password but the setup
    wizard is unable to find the user's mail server that was
    specified in the configuration file.

    If we then take a look at the connection document that was
    created during setup, we see that the "Destination server
    address" is written in canonical format (i.e.
    CN=SERVERNAME/O=ACME) and not "servername.acme.com"

    In the notes.ini, MailServer=CN=SERVERNAME/O=ACME was added
    during the install.

    If MailServer=servername.acme.com is set in the notes.ini
    before in the install then it works correctly.

    This issue only occurs in Notes 9. Using the same ConfigFile
    and Notes.ini when installing on Notes 8.5.3 works with no
    issues.

Local fix

  • Add MailServer=servername.acme.com to notes.ini before install
