LO85275: INOTES - ISSUE WITH MAILTO LINK CREATING NEW MAIL WITH A BLANK TO: FIELD

APAR status

• Closed as returned (APAR cannot be resolved without additional info from IBM or customer.)

Error description

• The Customer has found that mailto links dont work in iNotes,
  when users click on the link, a new mail opens in a new tab,
  but the mailto link doee not populate the to: field as expected.
  The customer expects "mailto" links to work in iNotes,
  Issue can be seen in iNotes on Domino 9.0.1FP3 testing carried
  with IE10 or IE11 (even with activeX instaled and set as the
  default mail client, mailto set to use the IBM inotes 9
  control.) on windows 7.
  steps:
  1. create a mail with a "mailto" link
  e.g - create rich text signature with the mailto link (see
  attachment section for a sample)
  - save the signature
  2. send a mail with the mailto link to the iNotes user
  3. iNotes user opens the mail with the mailto link, and clicks
  on the mailto link
  ===> a new tab opens with a new mail opens as expected, but
  there is no email address listed in the to: field, it is empty,
  it just looks like an empty new mail.
  (if you open the same mail in a notes client , and click on the
  mailto link, iit will open the webmail client with the
  recipient in the to field as expected.)

  The customer has also reported the same issue in firefox,
  however it is not possible to set the default browser in
  firefox, there is an existing enhancement for setting the

Local fix

• 1. Manually type the email address in the new mail.
  2. Use the notes client -> not really an acceptable workaround
  as some customers are web only.
