Error description

  • Issue with spell check when using 9.0.1FP3. Spell check runs ok
    with the same info / content when sending from the 8.5.3FP5
    server.

    When sending an email with a spelling mistake in single quotes
    and with spell check on, the spell check seems not to work
    correctly, some buttons don't work as expected, i.e it will
    stop at that word and not offer any suggestions and will not
    let you skip it. Customer has found that they have to cancel
    the send correct the mistake manually and only then will it
    send. eg 'refered'

    Scenario 1: On Domino Server 8.5.3 FP5
    You compose a new email (with spell checking before sending on)
    and in the text you have a spelling mistake enclosed in single
    quotes eg 'refered'. When you hit send the spell checker
    highlights the spelling mistake in yellow and offers
    suggestions to replace it. From here you can select replace,
    skip or send as is and the email will be sent.

    Scenario 2: On Domino Server 9.0.1 FP3 (recently upgraded from
    8.5.3 FP5)
    You compose a new email (with spell checking before sending on)
    and in the text you have a spelling mistake enclosed in single
    quotes eg 'refered'. When you hit send the spell checker pops
    up and the cursor is at the beginning of the spelling mistake.
    It is NOT highlighted in yellow and it does not offer any
    suggestions to replace the word. If you select skip nothing
    happens and it seems to "stick" on the spelling mistake in the
    single quotes. You can send the email at this point if you
    select send as is or cancel the send and correct the spelling
    mistake manually.

    Issue seems to be the same as #JFEG57YCCE as it only occurs
    with Internet Explorer, and effects words after ', but as the
    issue did not occur in 8.5.3FP5 it may be slightly different.

    ====================================
    found SPR # TMEN5F5KDX -iNotesWA spell checker, ignores
    misspelt words in single quotes, and duplicates the words in
    double quotes.
    -> the double quotes issue was resolved in v5.0.12 but the
    issue with the word in single quotes remained. marked as no
    plans to fix in the v70 codestream.
    -> found tn

    ===> Is the spell check designed to work on words enclosed in
    single quotes?
    ==========================

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. install 901
    2. install fp3
    3. install admin 901
    4. create an iNotes user
    5. log in as the iNotes user using Internet Explorer (e.g IE10)
    6. open the preferences -> "mail" tab -> general -> enable
    "Spell-check messages before sending" in the "Outgoing mail"
    section.
    -> "save and close"
    7. Test 1:
    created new mail:
    - added a recipient
    - added a subject
    - added text to the body e.g:
    this is a test
    refered
    'refered'
    -> selected send
    8. Spell check starts and statue bar shows "Spell check
    complete, 2 misspelled words found. Right click a misspelled
    word for a list of corrections or use the buttons provided.
    (L_SPELLCHECK)"
    -> the first entry "refered" shows in yellow
    -> you can select skip.(selecting "replace" just replaces that
    first word and the mail is sent)
    -> it then seems to find the second entry 'refered' but it is
    not highlighted in yellow,
    ->the buttons dont seem to work as expected "skip", "skip all",
    "Add to dictionary", "replace all" do nothing.
    "edit dictionary" -> opens the dictionary (but there are no
    words in it)
    "replace" allows the mail to be sent but the word in the mail
    remains as it was.
    -> selecting "send as is" allows the message to send
    -> selecting "cancel send" allows the user to edit the mail

    (if you only have the one misspelt word in single quotes, the
    status bar will advise there is one misspelt word, but in the
    spell check section, it does not show what is misspelt, so does
    not give suggestions.
    However the misspelt word still shows with a red line under it,
    and if you right click on it, it will give you other options
    e.g referred, refereed, revered)

    Test 2:
    create a new mail with the following text with correct spelling
    / known words:
    this is another test
    test
    'test'
    => that sent without issue

    ---> so it seems that the issue might only be with words that
    are not in the dictionary / known words.

    tTest 3: testing in Firefox:
    1. Did the same test as test 1, created new mail:
    - add a recipient
    - add a subject
    - add text to the body:
    this is a test
    refered
    'refered'
    2. select send
    ===> spell check starts, status bar shows: "Spell check
    complete, 2 misspelled words found. Right click a misspelled
    word for a list of corrections or use the buttons provided."
    and highlights the misspelt word: refered in yellow, the spell
    check section shows:
    not in dictionary: refered
    suggestions: revered
    -> selected skip
    -> the second entry 'refered' is then highlighted in yellow and
    offers a suggestion to the misspelling.
    ===> issue does not occur with Firefox.

Local fix

  • (a) to use another browser other then IE
    (b) to first add the word to the dictionary
    (c) when using IE, the incorrect word will show with a red
    underline, right click on the word, it will give you other word
    options/ suggestions.
