LO78667: TRAVELER VIBRATES ON NEW MAIL WHEN THE DEVICE OS IS IN VIBRATE MODE AND IT SHOULDN'T.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the OS is set to vibrate mode, the OS will vibrate
the device if it receives any notification event, including
sounds event. In this case, the Traveler notification sound
event is being sent to the OS and since the OS is in Vibrate
mode, it triggers the device to vibrate, even though the
notification event it received was not a vibrate event.

Local fix

  • When the Traveler notification sound is set to 'None' or
'Silent' then we will not send a notification sound event to
the OS. This means that if your Traveler notification sound is
set to anything other than None or Silent, the device will
still vibrate when the OS is in vibrate mode, and will play the
notification sound when the OS vibrate or mute is not enabled.
Conversely, if the Traveler notification sound is set to
'Silent' or 'None', the device will not vibrate when the OS is
in vibrate mode, and will not play a notification sound when
the OS vibrate or mute is not enabled.

Problem summary

  • Android device in vibrate mode may vibrate for new mail alert
when the alert is set for audio only.

Problem conclusion

  • The Notes Traveler client for Android devices was updated to
    handle this scenario correctly.

Temporary fix

  • This fix will be included in Notes Traveler 9.0.1 IF3 and
9.0.0.1 IF4 and any future releases. This fix is also available
in the Google Play store version of the client. See
this technote for the latest maintenance release information:
