Error description

  • When Traveler synced the mail to the BB10 device, the address
had quotes around the display name for the internet address.
But when the BB10 replied to the mail, it removed the quotes.
In both cases, the address has characters in the display name
that need to be encoded. If BB10 would have left the quotes, it
would have worked. But BB10 removed the quotes as the display
name was encoded such that quotes aren't required at that level.
But the encoded value doesn't go in the Domino document, so
when it is decoded and put into the Domino document, the comma
in the middle of the display name now looks like the require
comma used to delimit addresses and Domino (the Router) treats
it as two addresses. If the quotes had still been there, Domino
would have treated it as one address instead of two.

The BB10 should preserve the quotes it was given to avoid this
issue. But the server side will be changed to take any display
name that was encoded and has special characters in it but
without the quotes around it and add the quotes back. This will
allow Domino to see it as one address instead of two.

Local fix

  • Have BB10 fix their removal of the quotes.

Problem summary

  • This is actually a BB10 device issue but we were able to work
around it on the Notes Traveler server. The BB10 devices aren't
handling quoted addresses correct, it is tripping the quotes
when sending back to the server.

Problem conclusion

  • The Notes Traveler server was update to recognize this scenario
    and act accordingly.

Temporary fix
