LO77507: SERVER RESTART OR USER OR DUMP TELL COMMANDS MAY CAUSE ANDROID LOOKUP FAILURES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The older Android clients need text/html as the content type in
  the response.  The newer Android clients need text/x-vcard as
  the content type in the response.  When some actions are done on
  the server, the information on the client version isn't
  repopulated until the device syncs, so if the device does a
  lookup before a sync, the server doesn't know what version the
  client has and defaults to text/html.  If the Android client is
  newer, it will treat the text/html as most likely a login form
  and give the unexpected response or authentication errors.  The
  change here is for the server to add additional information that
  is checked if the device version isn't know yet to make a better
  guess as to which content type the device needs and expects.
  

Local fix

• Do a Sync Now on the device and then retry the lookup.
  

Problem summary

• Shortly after a server restart if a user performed a corporate
  lookup from Android, the device may prompt for password.
  

Problem conclusion

• The Notes Traveler client on Android will prompt for password
  anytime it recieves an unexpected response from the server.
  This is done to prevent accidental lockout if the user/pw is not
  correct or expired.  In this case the real issue was the server
  did send an unexpected resonse.  The Notes Traveler server was
  updated to to send the correct response in this scenario.
  

Temporary fix

• This fix is available in Notes Traveler 9.0.1 Interim Fix 1
  (IF1) and will be included in all future releases.
