LO67280: SERVER TO SERVER MIGRATION, LOCAL NTSDB LOST

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customer performed a server to server migration of a lotus
  Traveler environment to increase capacity.  The documented
  migration steps are to install Domino/Traveler then copy the
  Traveler data from the old box.  In a few cases we have seen
  customer copy the date first then install Domino/Traveler.
  Doing it in this order will not re-use the copied data.
  
  This change is to make the Lotus Traveler install use existing
  data in a new install scenario so that it does not matter the
  order in which the migration steps are performed.

Problem summary

• A few customer ran into a problem when migrating Lotus Traveler
  to new hardware.  The migration documentation states that you
  should install Lotus Traveler on the new system before copying
  the data from the old system.  If the data is copied first then
  Lotus Traveler is installed the data is automatically cleared as
  the server is ensuring a clean environment for a new
  installation.  This will cause all users to re-sync.  In a large
  deployment this can cause significant load on the server until
  all users have completed the re-sync of data.
  

Problem conclusion

• The clean was done as part of the always works out of the box
  install methodology.  In this case however the clean was more
  destructive to the customer than if something had not worked out
  of the box so the Lotus Traveler installer was updated to not
  automatically clean the data during a new installation.
  

Temporary fix

• This fix will be included in Lotus Traveler 8.5.3.2 and later
  releases.  See this technote for the latest Lotus Traveler
