Error description

  • If I enable the $EnableAlarms=1 in client notes.ini, or
in mail database, tools - preferences,
Calendar &To Do - Alarms, check the option "Enable the display
    of alarm notifications",
the notes client will open a new session to Domino server and
close the session immediately every 10 minutes.

With client clock debug, I can see notes client was trying to
get DB_MODIFIED_TIME of the mail database.

    (55-1211 [86]) OPEN_DB(CN=D852/O=org!!mail\twb.nsf): (Connect
    to
    D852/org: 130 ms) (Exch names: 0 ms)(Authenticate: 2 ms.)
    (OPEN_SESSION: 1 ms)
    (Opened: REP882578A8:002BDF0C) 1 ms. [134+290=424]
    (56-1211 [87]) DB_MODIFIED_TIME: 0 ms. [14+68=82]
    (57-1211 [88]) CLOSE_DB(REP882578A8:002BDF0C): 0 ms. [14+0=14]

However, I am not sure if this is as designed or not. Why we
open new session even we already have a session exist.
    > show user debug
    [039C:0006-0F4C] User Name Databases Open
    Minutes Since Last Used

    [039C:0006-0F4C] [0034] test wb/org (10) TCPIP:
    192.168.32.160:1565
    [039C:0006-0F4C] mail\twb.nsf
                   10

And why we check the database last modified time to alarm
    calendar items?

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Setup a Domino server and register a user
    2. Setup a Notes client, open the user's mail database , enable
the "Enable the display of alarm notifications" in mail
preference or set $EnableAlarms=1 in notes.ini. Set
    Client_Clock=1 and Console_Log_Enabled=1 in client notes.ini to
    get debug outputs.
    3. Open the mail database. You can then find on server console,
the client open new session and close immediately every 10
    minutes.

Local fix

  • set $EnableAlarms=0
